HABEMVS PAPAM Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany was elected the 265th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He was chosen by a conclave of cardinals in what was one of the fastest papal elections in the recent history. He chose the name Benedict XVI. Pope Benedict XVI, who turned 78 last April 16, succeeded Pope John Paul II after the latter passed away last April 2. He served as archbishop of Munich and was overseer of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He is described as a traditionalist and should be capable enough to fill the shoes of his hugely popular predecessor.
