The Passion of the Christ
Albert Go-Alcantara
As of writing, i am in tears and i am shaken after watching the Passion of Christ directed by Mel Gibson. I think more than words i could ever put here i cannot describe how utterly dehumanizing the agony, the pain, and the suffering Jesus went through. Yes, some critics say that it was overdone especially in the scourging. But we can never tell how gory the scene was to a bystander and much more in the eyes of Mary. It could have been much worse than depicted in the movie. All the scenes were carefully researched and portrayed as close as possible to the truth based on the inputs of bible scholars and historians. br>
One thing is for sure. Christians who watched this film will be shaken to it's core and it will bring you back to the essence of one's faith. Do you believe Christ is the Messiah? Do you believe in the Truth? Because watching this movie is not about propaganda or gimmick. It is about telling the Truth, the Good News. Although it smacks into our emotional side and however ironic that the Passion of Christ is part of the Good News, watching this film does not end only through it's entertaining value. The movie bleeds for us whether we are to really believe and let Christ into our lives. Should the sacrifice of Christ be accepted by us or rejected by indifference and endless divisions between different Christian denominations over who is the true Church?
And for Non Christians, the search for truth will always be an open door for them but what is important is that I as a Catholic Christian should be an instrument and an example for them to truly believe that Christ is alive in me and in us because we should be the living presence of Christ in this world. Try as much as i want to i know it will be hard but with the grace of God I have to persevere. For the bestway to spread the Good News is to be a living example so that they may believe.
But for every person who have seen this movie whether they felt this was an overreaction or not. I am sure that the goodness of their being will move one to more than pity to realize that it was true and that it is still true up to now. There are so many aspects and dimension of the story in the movie that you can ponder and reflect on such as the reality of sin, despair and hope, obedience of Mary, and most important is the immeasurable love of God for us as shown by Jesus.
I pray that watching this film will help me become a better Christian. To find courage in living a Christian life and to bear witness to the truth. There will be realizations but the memories will always be alive when I go to mass and celebrate the Eucharist. For it will constantly remind me of love of Christ
