The Strangest Thing
Kaira Leal
Faith in God is the strangest thing in the world. It can make people do the strangest things, say the strangest things, and believe in the strangest things. In other's point of view, it's as weird as love. (Thus the term "love-struck idiot.") But in many other ways, Christian faith can indeed be sensible, if not totally true. Since it is we who commit ourselves fully to the calling of God, then we can say that faith is indeed a voluntary action on the part of the believer. Our beliefs are not based on mere, simple human opinion, but on clear, intelligible, and obvious truth. It's just like knowing that wind exists; you can't touch it nor see it, instead you feel it, that's why we know that it's there. God isn't like the Sandman, the Bogeyman, or Santa Claus, who have all sprouted out of our creatively childish imagination. The Supreme Power exists in a class of His own.
As I have said before, love is very much similar to faith. Since faith is believing in God, and God is love, then faith = believing in the God who is also love. (Queer analogy, yes?) In the Scriptures, it has been said that the greatest act of love one person can do is to risk his life for a friend. This was exactly what Jesus did for us when He died on the cross. When you get to think about it, dying for someone else is extremely hard thing to do. It requires more than just mere courage, it also needs to be done with a firm and steadfast faith in the Lord. Then, and only then, will your life (and death) be meaningful. But we don't necessarily have to die just to give our life to others, we can do so even when we're still alive. Service is also and act of selfless love, for it is through pure, utmost dedication that we manage to do this.
