The Sama sa Masa outreach program was well attended. The Manila City Hall Band came to the parish to begin the event. Many availed of the services offered at the Sama sa Masa. Bro. Proceso Chua suggested that the parish send a thank-you letter to the mayor. During the Fiesta Mass, awards were given out in recognition of the loyalty and service of some parishoners to the parish. Awardees included the family of Mr. & Mrs. William Uy, the family of Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Calderon, Bro. William Limqueco, and Bro. Lawrence See. A special award was also given to former assistant parish priest Fr. Tom Cassidy. 2. Friends of St. Jude Report The Friends of St. Jude have sold T-shirts and other articles in order to raise funds for the parish renovation. The group will also have a raffle on December 26, 2002. Tickets are being sold at P20 each and P200 per booklet of 11 tickets (1 ticket free). Tickets are available at the parish office. 3. Church Renovation / Ways and Means The final plans for the renovation were submitted on October 28, 2002. Revisions on the plans have been noted by the Church Renovation Committee. Names of prospective project engineers are being sought. The Church Renovation Committee will meet on November 17, 2002 after the 9 AM Mass to discuss the procedures for the screening of candidates for the project. Bro. Lawrence See presented to the body a proposal to use recycling in the parish?s fund-raising efforts. The idea was brought to his attention by Sis. Betty Ngo and Sis. Loretta Chua. The proposal avails the services of a company called Now Trading Concepts. This company is endorsed by Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc., which uses their services in its own recycling operations. Now Trading Concepts will provide the parish with bins where used aluminum cans and plastic bottles will be collected. It will then pay the parish for the redeemable value of the cans and bottles. The revenue generated will go to the parish renovation fund. The body has agreed to this proposal. Sis. Chit de Leon volunteered to take charge of these bins which will be placed in St. Jude Catholic School. She would encourage those in the school to put their used cans and bottles in the bins. Fr. Pol reported that a solicitation letter had already been sent to Congressman Mark Jimenez. However, Fr. Pol was later informed that the congressman won?t be able to make a donation for the church renovation this year. 4. Parish Website / E-mail Bro. John Tanbonliong reported that he has already registered the domain name stjudeshrinemanila.ph on behalf of the parish. He also reported that he has found a prospective web hosting company through which the parish can set up its official website. Bro. A committee has been formed to oversee the construction of the website. The committee members are Bro. John Tanbonliong, Sis. Josephine Yap, and Bro. Roderick Barcelo of the Legion of Mary. The committee will meet at a future date to discuss the design and content of the website. 5. General Assembly The Parish General Assembly will be held on December 15, 2002 at 10:30 AM.
