Parish Pastoral Council Meeting - 11 August 2002

1. Youth Bible Encounter Seminar

Paul Riparip, representative of the parish youth group, reported that the Bible Encounter Seminar was held on August 3-4, 2002 at the 3rd floor of the parish annex. There were 32 participants from different SVD parishes namely: Hesus Nazareno, Risen Christ, Christ the King, Sacred Heart, and St. Jude. The different sessions of the seminar covered bible scanning, methods of interpretation, and the process of bible study. Fr. Arlo Yap gave a very inspiring homily about God?s love. As a result of the seminar, the parish youth group will have their own bible study session at 1 PM every Sunday starting August 11, 2002.

2. Church Renovation

Water from the deep well has been certified free from coliform organisms. However, no test has been done yet regarding its salinity. Fr. Pol added that water from the deep well is not even suitable for washing when there is water shortage. The renovation committee has proposed that the area of the deep well be utilized for the candelaria area. The deep well would be closed and the pump removed. The reasons cited were as follows: a) the deep well does not serve its purpose; b) water from the deep well is not suitable for drinking and washing; and c) the space is needed for the candelaria. The motion was duly seconded and approved by the body without any objections.

Bro. Proceso explained the structural plans for the canopy at the entrance of the church. The side doors to be installed will be folding. The picture showing the perspective of the proposed renovation will be submitted soon. Bro. Danny commented that the proposed wider main doors are good because they will allow those outside to see what is happening inside the church.

Sr. Helen Tan said that the CWL is sponsoring a play, Christmas Carol, on December 15, 2002 and the proceeds will be donated to the renovation of the church.

3. Parish Calendar 2003

Fr. Pol said that for the 2003 calendar, Fr. Joseph will appear as Parochial Vicar and Fr. Bel as the Attached Priest. It was agreed to order 3,000 copies for 2003 with the same printer. Bro. Danny suggested that if possible, the picture of the proposed renovation of the church be used in the calendar instead of the old picture.

4. St. Jude Parish Fiesta

The schedule for the parish fiesta was discussed and approved. The theme of this year?s parish fiesta is ?The Family: Hope for the New Millennium?.

There will be no more elaborate fireworks because of what happened last year when the bamboo parts of the fireworks fell on the devotees.

It was suggested that Bishop Tony Palang, SVD, of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, be invited to be the main celebrant for the Fiesta Mass.

Msgr. Laban will be invited to administer the sacrament of confirmation. The catechetical preparation for confirmation will start on September 7, 2002 at 3 PM.

Fr. Pol informed the body that a memo was issued by Cardinal Sin requesting parishes to administer mass weddings for our poor brothers and sisters. It was also stated in the memo not to invite politicians so as not to give political color to the ceremonies. It was agreed that a mass wedding will be on October 26, 2002 at 3 PM and light refreshment will be provided. Sis. Lisa was instructed to prepare an announcement regarding the requirements for the wedding. The invitation for the marriage validation will be limited to parishoners, both territorial and personal. Fr. Pol also requested the help of the Legion of Mary.

5. Alumni Masses

Fr. Pol said that the St. Jude Catholic School Alumni Masses were well attended. He received feedback that the Masses are a good way to start the day with the family and give former friends and classmates a chance to see each other. This activity was started by Alfred Lao of Batch ?78. Bro. Proceso Chua suggested that we offer light refreshments after the Mass. Bro. Lawrence See said that this could be our way of welcoming the alumni to be more active in the parish. It was agreed that we will prepare light refreshments on the first Sunday of the month and all council members are welcome to join them.

6. Family Television Mass

Fr. Bel informed the PPC that his Family Television Mass Project has started. He has invited the Couples for Christ and the mayor of Quezon City to join in the project. Positive comments were received on their initial coverage. The mass is at 9 AM on Channel 13.

7. Day Care Center

Fr. Pol informed the body that on every 1st and 2nd Sunday of the month, the third floor of the parish annex will be used as a Day Care Center of the barangay. He will meet the new officers of the barangay on August 13 & 15, 2002.

8. GMA Scholarship Project

Sis. Cora informed the body that 74 children from our parish are beneficiaries of the GMA Scholarship project. In addition to the scholarship, each child receives a P450.00 monthly allowance. The Couples for Christ were instrumental in making this project possible.

9. World Meeting of Families

Fr. Pol announced that in preparation for the World Meeting of Families, the Archdiocese of Manila has been assigned to accommodate 333 families. He is looking for people to provide a place, meals, and transportation for these families each composed of father, mother, and child.
