Parish Pastoral Council Meeting - 14 July 2002

1. Parish Festival of Fathers and Mothers

The Parish Festival of Fathers and Mothers was held last July 7, 2002 in preparation for the World Meeting of Families in January 2003. Many people, most of them coming from the parish barangays, attended the Mass and lunch. During the Festival, there were forums that discussed the strengths and weaknesses of parents, as well as their relationships with God, their families, and their neighbors.

2. Update on Church Renovation

Ms. Rosalie Cheng gave an update on the parish church renovations. She presented the updated plans and drawings, including a copy of the drawing to be used for the billboard, which will be placed outside the church while the renovations are on going. The renovation will have two phases: the first phase involves the church while the second involves the rectory. The parish hall will not be renovated but its façade will be repainted. The water in the deep well will be tested. If the water is potable, the deep well may be retained. Otherwise, the deep well will be sealed. A smaller baptismal font will be made; the existing baptismal font is too big.

Bro. Proceso Chua requested an itemization of estimates for the different sections of the renovation such as the candelaria, the baptismal font, etc. The parish solicitation letter for donations was read by the Sis. Mya Ocado and was approved by the body.

3. Resolution on Integral Faith Formation

The resolution on integral faith formation, as formulated by the PPC Secretary, was presented to the body. It was agreed to reduce the number of items and, if possible, focus on one or two points. The revised resolution will be presented during the next meeting. Fr. Pol suggested that integral faith formation be used as a backgrounder for the fiesta theme and that the daily novena themes would center on this.

4. Fr. Rikki?s New Assignment

Fr. Rikki Miranda has been assigned as Campus Minister Chaplain of St. Jude Catholic School. Fr. Joseph Lu will be the new assistant parish priest.

5. Parish Youth Activities

Ysmael Angeles of the Knights of the Altar / Parish Youth reported that on Aug. 3-4, 2002, Fr. Arlo Yap will facilitate the Bible Encounter Seminar (BES), and overnight activity that aims to encourage Bible reading among the youth. It will be participated in by the parish youth, and possibly the youth from other parishes.

Fr. Pol announced that in lieu of Fr. Rikki, parish staffer Cecille Abellar will act as youth coordinator.

6. Media Apostolate

Fr. Bel reported that the SVD Media Apostolate and Mission Communication Foundation will air a live TV Mass starting August 4, 2002 at 9 AM. In September, the Mass will be followed by a half-hour talk show that aims to deepen one?s faith by discussing religious issues, devotions, and practices. Bro. Lawrence See said that the Legion of Mary can encourage the disabled faithful to watch the live TV Mass.

7. Asian Conference on Religion and Peace

Fr. Pol shared highlights from the Asian Conference on Religion and Peace held last June 23-28, 2002 in Djojakarta, Indonesia. The conference aims to harness the power of religion to attain peace among the nations in Asia. The Philippine delegation included representatives from different religions. As a follow-up, the members of the Philippine delegation will spearhead an inter-religious meeting in the Philippines prior to the next conference in Shanghai.

8. Barangay Elections

Fr. Pol encouraged everyone to vote wisely during the upcoming Barangay Elections. He is inviting the barangay candidates to attend the 6 PM Mass on the day before the elections.
