Parish Pastoral Council Meeting - 9 June 2002

1. Flores de Maria

Sis. Liza Chan reported to the PPC that the Flores de Maria last month was a success. The month-long event concluded with a procession and a Eucharistic celebration. Five children were able to receive First Holy Communion.

2. MFCPLA Quarterly Meeting

The MFCPLA met last May 28, 2002 at St. Jude parish for its quarterly meeting. Bro. Lawrence reported that the MFCPLA was considering granting membership to emerging Chinese-Filipino parishes and groups. A committee has been formed to study how these parishes and group can be incorporated into the MFCPLA. The committee was supposed to meet last June 10, 2002 at St. Peter the Apostle parish. However, the meeting was postponed in lieu of the meeting called by Fr. Zuloaga to discuss plans for the upcoming National Consultation of the Chinese-Filipino apostolate this November.

3. Parish Website and E-mail Address

Bro. John Tanbonliong reported to the PPC the procedures by which the parish can obtain a website address and an e-mail address. He discussed what domain names are, what their advantages are, how much they cost, and what domain names have already been used by other parishes and organizations that bear the name of St. Jude. The PPC will decide on a domain name at a future meeting.

4. Parish Festival of Fathers & Mothers

At the Festival of Mothers held at La Salle Greenhills last May, Bishop Buhain encouraged the participants to have a Festival of Fathers and Mothers in their respective parishes. In response to this, our parish has tentatively scheduled its Festival of Fathers and Mothers on July 7, 2002. The Festival of the Youth, which was originally scheduled for August, will instead be celebrated simultaneously with the Festival of Fathers and Mothers. Bro. Robert of the Couples for Christ has been asked to organize the Festivals.

5. Church Renovation

Sis. Loretta Chua reported on the initial deposits and disbursements made on the Parish Renovation Fund. The official receipts, vouchers, checks, and notebooks for the recording of account transactions were also presented to the body. Bro. William Limqueco asked if the name of the parish could be included in the bank account name. This is to avoid misconceptions that might arise regarding the purpose of the account. Bro. Lawrence and Sis. Loretta will try to find a way to incorporate the name of the parish into the account name.

The Archdiocese of Manila has approved the plans for our parish renovation. The general contractor has also signed the contract to perform the renovations.

The composition of the Ways and Means Committee has been amended to make it more focused on its role in the parish renovation. The committee will be headed by Bro. John Gohan. The committee members are Bro. Lawrence See, Bro. Alex Pesengco, Bro. Proceso Chua, Sis. Vicky Kho, Sis. Betty Chua, Sis. Helen Tan, Bro. William Limqueco, and Bro. John Tanbonliong. Members from the territorial side of the parish will also be asked to join the committee. A draft of the solicitation letter will be prepared by Bro. Limqueco. A Chinese translation of the draft will also be made. All the parish organizations have been asked to come up with ways to raise funds for the parish renovation.

6. Youth Report

Fr. Rikki Miranda reported on the summer activities of the parish youth. Our parish youth participated in this year?s vicariate sportsfest. Although our youth didn?t win in the competitions, Fr. Rikki said that getting to know each other was more important.

Fr. Arlo Yap, SVD is planning to have a Youth Bible Encounter at our parish. Fr. Arlo will soon be sending a formal letter to the parish to elaborate on the details of the activity.

7. Letter on Freemasonry

The Archdiocese of Manila has issued a catechesis regarding Catholics who are also members of Freemasonry. Fr. Pol said that according to this catechesis, members of Freemasonry may or may not be allowed to participate in lay ministries depending on their degree of involvement with the Freemasonry society.

8. Interfaith Religious Conference

Fr. Pol will be in Indonesia on June 23 ? 28, 2002 with representatives from different religions in Asia for the Asian Conference on Religion and Peace.
