Gospel: Mt 13:44-52
Treasure Hunter
I used to be very fascinated with the Indiana Jones movies. Imagine going through a lot of adventure and eventually getting what you searched for. The thrills and chills can make an ordinary man quiver in fear but not Indiana Jones, and for that I faithfully watched movies chronicling his exploits.
But come to think of it, Indiana Jones taught me a lot of lessons concerning my being a Catholic Christian in the light of today?s Gospel. I?ve listed them for you:
1. He leaves everything in search of the treasure.
---Indiana Jones left his teaching job and whatever comfort zone he was in to risk his life over some treasure he isn?t sure exists. Perhaps, we too as Catholic Christians should be willing to leave our comfort zones once in awhile in search of a greater meaning for our lives.
2. He finds joy and fulfillment in what he is doing.
---Shouldn?t we all be? I mean, what we are doing right now, simple as they may be, should bring us joy and a sense of fulfillment. If not, then we have to look deeper and reflect on what we are doing with our lives.
3. He conquers his fears in pursuit of the treasure.
---He overcomes his fears to face his nightmares be it phobia on a particular animal or other imminent danger. He never surrenders or retreats. Focus on his goal is the key to his success.
4. He shares his treasure with others.
---He is an archaeologist and a professor, so whatever treasure/s he finds, he places it in a museum for other people to see or study.
5. His adventure never ceases.
---He never tires or grows complacent for he knows that there is always an adventure somewhere and more treasures to get. In as of this writing, Indiana Jones 4 is being planned already.
So as you can see, we too are called to be treasure hunters in our way. The treasure might not be of the material kind, but it certainly brings about a sense of richness in our soul and well-being. But of course, danger (in the form of temptation and sin) lurks everywhere, trying to get you off track. However, with enough focus and determination, and faith in the Almighty, we can achieve our goal. But this doesn?t stop there, for the treasure is not meant for you alone, for the Word is meant to be shared so that others may experience the wealth it offers. Furthermore, the adventure doesn?t stop there, for the Lord continually calls us for more adventures.
