Parish Pastoral Council Meeting - 17 March 2002

1. MFCPLA Report

Bro. Lawrence See reported that a new set of MFCPLA officers was elected at the MFCPLA meeting on February 26, 2002 at Binondo Parish. The elected officers are as follows:

Max Tan (St. Peter) - President
Norma Sy (Binondo) - Vice President
John Oliver Tanbonliong (St. Jude) - Secretary
Dick Or (Mary the Queen) - Treasurer

2. Friends of St. Jude Report

Fr. Pol reported that a new group in the parish called the Friends of St. Jude has been formed. This group is composed of St. Jude devotees who have volunteered to serve the parish, particularly at the Thursday Novena Masses. At present they have lectors and have a choir for the 12 noon Thursday Novena Mass. They have scheduled their regular meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month after lunch.

Fr. Pol clarified that the Friends of St. Jude is not an independent parish organization like those represented in the PPC. The services the group offers are performed in coordination with the existing parish organizations. Speakers from different parish organizations have been asked to give talks to the group concerning the guidelines of the various parish functions and responsibilities. Thus, the overlapping of responsibilities is avoided and at the same time, the group is given the formation it needs to serve the parish.

Fr. Pol expressed his hopes that by being able to serve actively in the parish, the members of Friends of St. Jude will be encouraged to join the existing parish organizations as full-time members. Fr. Pol also hopes that the devotees will be encouraged to spread the devotion to St. Jude to the provinces. Fr. Pol reminded the body that nationwide devotion to St. Jude is a requirement for our parish to obtain national shrine status.
